In this article – we outline the 7 best beaches in Tivat, from buzzing Waikiki to the local favourite with a mystery name…

Tivat, Montenegro, is known for its scenic coastline and luxury marina where superyachts stop off on their Adriatic tours. There are a number of attractions in the town itself, but its views of Kotor Bay are what really make it special. So it’s well worth spending time at one of it’s awesome beaches and coves to take in the stunning scenery.

Best Tivat Beaches

We visited in July 2023 and explored Tivat on foot, walking along its coast from one end of the town to the other. It was one of our favourite places in Montenegro that combined pretty parks and marinas with a chilled out vibe. But its shoreline was something really special and we were lucky enough to see all of it.

Unlike neighbouring Kotor’s modest three beaches, Tivat has more than seven to choose from. The best ones are…

  1. Waikiki Beach
  2. Belane Beach
  3. Boka Surf Beach
  4. Kompas Beach
  5. Plaža Ponta
  6. Beach 5C (Seljanovo)
  7. Kalardovo Beach

Let’s look at what makes each one worth a visit…

Waikiki Beach Tivat
Tivat’s Waikiki Beach has umbrellas, loungers, and impressive views.

1 – Waikiki Beach

Waikiki Beach in Tivat is at the northern end of the town, flanked by a beach club and popular restaurants like Big Ben. It has rows of sunbeds and umbrellas that you can rent and waiters on hand to serve much-needed drinks in the summer sun. It’s not a sandy beach but the water is unbelievably clear and a beautiful azure blue.

2 – Belane Beach

Belane Beach is a hidden Tivat gem known for its peaceful atmosphere. The beach is surrounded by nature, offering a tranquil escape (not that the town is particularly full of bustling crowds!). While it may be smaller than other beaches, its natural beauty and calm waters make it a favourite among locals. It’s just south of Kalimanj Marina where there are plenty of amenities.

3 – Boka Surf Beach

Boka Surf Beach is just next door to Belane but more of a watersports beach. You can rent jet skis and sail catamarans here which is perfect for people who like an active beach day. It’s a bit further away from the amenities of Kalimanj Marina so it’s worth stocking up on drinks and snacks before coming here.

4 – The Kompas Beach

We don’t actually know the name of this beach and it’s not listed on Google Maps, but we know it’s definitely there because we went ourselves! This beach is located next to the Kompas and Pine Promenade, and was really popular with locals. It’s a small pebble beach with clear waters and views towards the ruins of Kompleks Bizanti. This beach is really close to the town centre which makes it convenient for people staying in this area.

5 – Plaža Ponta

Plaža Ponta is a small public beach just south of Waikiki with crystal clear water. There are no sunbeds or umbrellas, just a small lighthouse, pebbles, and lots of natural beauty. Because it’s small, it does get crowded in the summer so it’s worth arriving early during peak season.

Tivat Marina Beach
5C Beach in Tivat is perfect for swimming and sunbathing, with views of the marina and Kotor Bay.

6 – Beach 5C

Beach 5C, also known as Seljanovo Beach, is a mix of pebbles and concrete platforms with a relaxed atmosphere. It provides a stunning view of Porto Montenegro, the Bay of Kotor, and the surrounding mountains. There are also some beachside cafes where you can enjoy local cuisine.

7 – Kalardovo Beach

Kalardovo Beach boasts a mix of pebbles and sand, offering a more secluded and relaxed atmosphere. Surrounded by olive groves and greenery, it provides a tranquil escape. The beach features beachfront cafes where visitors can enjoy refreshments with a view of the bay. It’s located near Tivat airport just south of the main town, so is a bit more of a walk than the others on this list (but just 10 mins by car or taxi).

Special Mention: Plavi Horizonti (Blue Horizons) Beach

Plavi Horizonti is a beach near Tivat around 25 mins drive (15km) along the coast. Although it’s not in Tivat itself, we think it’s worth a special mention since it’s got a lot more amenities than the local beaches. If you have a car in Montenegro then it could be worth a day trip visit from Tivat

Plavi Horizonti is a sandy beach in a picturesque setting surrounded by lush Mediterranean vegetation. The shallow and clear waters make it ideal for families with children. The beach offers amenities such as beach bars, water sports, and sunbed rentals.
