We explored Tivat in July 2023 while holidaying in Montenegro and were really impressed by this hidden gem. Both of us thoroughly enjoyed strolling around the town and taking in its incredible waterside setting. It felt like a little slice of the Swiss lakes or Italian Amalfi Coast, but for half the price of those more popular (and crowded) European destinations.

Big Ben
Big Ben is a top-rated restaurant located opposite Waikiki Beach, that’s popular with tourists and locals alike. Not to be confused with the famous London clock tower, it boasts an open rooftop with views over the water that’s perfectly situated for sunset drinks. The menu is extensive with lots of traditional Montenegrin dishes along with fresh seafood and BBQ options (we really enjoyed both the calamari and pulled pork burger).

Strolling along the marina offers a chance to admire the beautiful vessels, enjoy waterfront dining, and soak in the maritime atmosphere. It’s also flanked by traditional whitewashed buildings which makes it the perfect setting for a waterside wander.
Veliki Gradski Park
Tivat’s ‘Large Town Park’, known as Veliki Gradski, is a lush green oasis in the heart of the town. It’s ideal for a leisurely stroll, relaxed jog, quiet picnic, or a little relaxation. The park’s well-maintained pathways and shaded areas make it a favourite spot among locals and visitors alike. If you’re looking for somewhere to get out of the sun and cool off in the summer months, the park is ideal.
Culture Square
Culture Square is a vibrant public space in Tivat, often hosting cultural events, festivals, and concerts. Yes Tivat is worth visiting and has plenty to offer, from its luxury marina and promenade to cultural square and beaches with views across the Bay of Kotor. It also doesn’t have the tourist crowds of Budva and Kotor so makes a quieter alternative.
