Let’s look at the best walking route to take…

Starting Point
When we lived in Bristol, we always started our harbour walks from The Centre which is where this tour begins too. This is a pedestrianised area at the mouth of the harbour located between the water and the city centre. It’s also where lots of the bus stops are so an ideal hopping off point if you’re coming from further out.
But in practice, you can start from wherever is most convenient. If you’re staying in south Bristol, then you might begin at Wapping Wharf. If you’re coming from Clifton Suspension Bridge, then you should start from the opposite end by Hotwells. The beauty of this harbour walk is that it’s circular, so you can start wherever you like without missing out on any of the sights.
Bristol Harbourside Walking Tour
Starting at The Centre, head towards the left side of the harbour and walk alongside the water following Narrow Quay. Continue straight past Pero’s Bridge and you’ll find the first stop on the tour…
1. Arnolfini
- The Arnolfini is an arts centre with a gallery and exhibitions that showcase contemporary art and cultural events.
- Explore the exhibits and appreciate the diverse range of artworks on display.
Directions: From the Arnolfini, continue walking southwest along Narrow Quay. Turn right onto Prince Street and follow it across the bridge, then turn right alongside the water to reach MShed at Princes Wharf.
Insider Tip – If you don’t have time for the full Bristol harbour walk, cross over Pero’s Bridge instead of walking straight past it. This will take you to the other side of the harbour, where you can walk back alongside the water to the starting point. It’s the only place you can shortcut the full walk by crossing over, but will still give you a flavour of the harbourside area.

- The MShed is a city museum that offers insight into the history and culture of Bristol.
- Learn about the city’s industrial past, its people, and its role in shaping Britain’s history.

Take the second alley on the right and you’ll come out at Hanover Place. Venture around the back of the building that’s straight in front of you and pause by the wall underneath the clock tower.
5. Banksy’s “Girl with a Pearl Earring” Mural
